"They come in and intimidate you and try to punk you, but if you don't back down from them, they kind of fold."
Those words were uttered by rookie NBA guard D.J. Augustin about the Boston Celtics whom the hapless Charlotte Bobcats, had just beaten in overtime. I don't know if that is necessarily the case but for a long time I have thought that the Celtics main guy Kevin Garnett has more bark than bite. It has been my experience that guys who have to portray themselves as gully over and over again usually aren't. I mean Garnett has been in the NBA now for over a decade making tens of millions of dollars but he still wants you to think he is "hood". Sometimes when he is being interviewed I just want to yell at the Tee Vee "you are trying to hard fool". And indeed the Bobcats were rowdy as hell when the Celtics tried to punk them and they didn't back down which just might have lead to their surprise victory. Since the Lakers beat them on Christmas, a loss many talking heads tried to shrug off, it seems that more and more teams have loss their awe of the Celtics and are going right at them. Since that time they have gone 1-4 and a team that looked to stand a chance to break the Chicago Bull's record for wins in a season seems to have lost their swagger. And for me its reminicent of how the Atlanta Hawks took them to the brink last year in the playoffs when they were one of the few teams that stood up to them too. Now its quite early to start saying they have a glass jaw but it will be interesting to see the rest of the season how the Celtics react when teams actually stand up to them.
