When The Shoe Is On The Other Foot

Did you notice how conservatives are shocked and appalled when people who they aligned themselves with when President Bush was in office turn on them because they break ranks with the rest of their movement. First it was Kathleen Parker who dared speak ill of Sarah Palin and then was absolutely stunned by the hate mail she recieved in the aftermath. Now its David Frum who is upset that he gets called a RINO and gets a lot of angry emails because he dared speak against Rush Limbaugh becoming the voice of the Republican Party:

In the days since I stumbled into this controversy, I've received a great deal of e-mail. (Most of it on days when Levin or Hannity or Hugh Hewitt or Limbaugh himself has had something especially disobliging to say about me.) Most of these e-mails say some version of the same thing: if you don't agree with Rush, quit calling yourself a conservative and get out of the Republican Party. There's the perfect culmination of the outlook Rush Limbaugh has taught his fans and followers: we want to transform the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and Reagan into a party of unanimous dittoheads—and we don't care how much the party has to shrink to do it. That's not the language of politics. It's the language of a cult.

Yes its the language of a cult Mr Frum, but you see you and the Kathleen Parkers of the world helped to create that cult. Back when liberals and progressives were arguing against the Iraq war you people encourged the ditto heads to go after them. When liberals and progressives spoke out against illegal wiretapping of US citizens you saw nothing wrong with those very same dittoheads spouting the worst kind of hatred toward their fellow citizens. When liberals and progressives were outraged about the torture committed by our troops and authorized by our government you people decided to that it was entirely approrpriate for Limbaugh and other conservative voices to label them traitors and idiots just the same way they are labeling you now. For years conservatives have allowed the fringe of their movement to become the mainstream and now you are seeing the fruits of that labor. Its a bed that they all helped to make so now its only appropriate that they lay in it. I can tell you one thing, after all the venom that was thrown our way in the last 8 years I can just about promise you that they won't find much sympathy from the Left.
