Guess Who

President Obama granted an interview with a media source and I want you to guess who that outlet was after you read a couple of the questions that were asked.

Q. The first six weeks have given people a glimpse of your spending priorities. Are you a socialist as some people have suggested?

snip

Q. So to people who suggested that you are more liberal than you suggested on the campaign, you say, what?

snip

Q. Is there one word name for your philosophy? If you’re not a socialist, are you a liberal? Are you progressive? One word?

snip

Q. Is it within the realm of possibility that some of these Guantanamo detainees might have actually been released into the United States, the Uighurs, or somebody like that?

snip

Q. Leon Panetta has said that we’re going to continue renditions, provided we’re not sending people to countries that torture. Why continue them at all?

snip

Q: Turning to other matters, when it comes to race relations, do you agree that we’re a nation of cowards?

Now would you think these questions came from

A) FoxNews

B) Washington Times

C) The Weekly Standard

D) The New York Times

If you answered anything other than "D" you were wrong. I don't know if the big wigs at the New York Times think that those kinds of questions are "hard hitting" or that they show they are going to hold President Obama's feet to the fire or something but I personally think they were both frivilous and in some respects dangerous. Practically the only WingNut rumor they didn't hit on was if he was a natural born citizen. At a time in our country when the conservative media and the conservative blogosphere is continually trying to gin up fear and distrust of President Obama and the government in general these kinds of questions only add fuel to that fire. It wouldn't matter how he responded, even though I believe he handled the questions well, the fringe of our society is going to see the mere fact that he was asked those questions as proof that their fears are actually in the mainstream. What reasonable person really believes our President is a Socialist? Which voter that was paying attention during the campaign believes he has "gone liberal"? The New York Times has fallen on hard times financially and they did themselves no favors with this interview. Look I want President Obama to be held account for his actions and his intentions but nothing about those questions reflect any amount of seriousness from the questioner. In point of fact President Obama called them back after the interview to express that very sentiment. If the New York Times is looking to shore up their conservative cred surely there is a better way to do it than this.
