He Is Just Not Very Bright

I don't know how Charlie Crist has made it thus far in politics, but it has become increasingly clear that the guy just isn't very smart. I mean I understand how much pressure he feels now to go full wingnut after the NY 23 debacle and Marco Rubio hot on his heels. But you have to be a special kind of stupid to try to lie about your support for a stimulus bill not even a full year ago and then not have the common sense to take evidence (ie truth)to the contrary down from your own website.

Tuesday I joined President Barack Obama for a town hall meeting in Fort Myers to discuss with Floridians the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

During the town hall, I reiterated my support for the federal stimulus package, and pledged to the people of Florida that here in Florida we stand ready to use our share of the money quickly and responsibly to create new jobs and serve our most vulnerable citizens.

There is no doubt that these are historic, challenging times for this nation – and our state.

We are balancing our budget here, even when it calls for difficult decisions. We cut spending by $2.5 billion dollars during the recent special Legislative session.

But even as we tighten our belts, we need a stimulus to help the people of Florida, and to help every state that is hurting. This federal stimulus package is a bridge of help for Florida.

This reminds me of the kind of revisionist history the Bushies tried to pull off after no WMDs were found in Iraq. At what point will the people of Florida get fed up with the way Crist insults your intelligence?

Hopefully, soon...

Charlie Crist Has Been Reading Too Much Orson Wells

Charlie Crist seems to think there really are memory holes that he can use to erase his record. Hasn't anybody ever told this guy about the intertubes?

Crist has a serious problem separating fantasy from reality. This goes beyond the typical political hyperbole to downright fraud. He had absolutely nothing to do with Florida’s gains in education. All this was a result of Jeb Bush’s accountability reforms. This would be like Gator backup QB John Brantley taking credit for the win over Kentucky.

When called on this, Crist started seriously backstroking, giving credit to Jeb but adding, "I was education commissioner when he was governor."
Unbelievable! Crist ran for education commissioner in 2000. This was two years after voters approved an amendment abolishing the post of elected commissioner. But the change didn't go into effect until the beginning of 2003, so Crist ran for a post nobody took seriously because it was nothing more than a 2-year caretaker position. It was classic Crist opportunism. Upon assuming office, he put 111 pictures of himself on the department’s web site (I counted them) and used it as a platform to run for Attorney General. He was non-existent in Jeb Bush’s education reforms. He was lampooned by Democrats for not even knowing the passing score on the FCAT.

Crist also made other ludicrous claims in Michigan, taking credit for cutting and balancing the budget, and cutting taxes. In fact, he had no choice but to cut the budget because it’s required by the state constitution. The cutting was a result of plunging revenues, not anything Crist did. Another gem was Crist claiming to be for lower taxes and less government. In fact, he glommed on to the federal stimulus to boost Florida to get him through the Senate campaign. As soon as he leaves office, the budget is going to explode. That's why he's leaving. He's getting out while the getting is good.

Watching Charlie on CNN push his Cover Florida health plan was hysterical. In two years, the program has signed up a grand total of 4,000 people. Like everything else, Charlie got it passed in the Legislature, grabbed some headlines, and abandoned it until dusting it off for a political campaign. If this is the answer to the nation's health care woes, it's time to bring on the death panels.

"Cover Florida is an oxymoran,'' says Beckey Cherney, president and CEO of the Central Florida Healthcare Coalition. "If you held it up as a national model, it would be what you would not do.

This is the same guy who said he prayed away any hurricanes the past two years by the way. We can't afford someone this blatantly dishonest and inept to represent the great state of Florida. We had just that kind of person in the Presidency the previous 8 years, does anyone want a repeat of that?

We must find a way to elect Kendrick Meek as the junior Senator fof the state of Florida.

Will The Media Ever Notice That Kent Conrad Is Lying?

Senator Kent Conrad appeared on "Face The Nation" this morning to peddle his lame co-op alternative to a public option in health care reform. Now I get that he is a ConservaDem and that he supposedly want to be seen as a big time deficit cutter so he has some ideological objections to health care reform. I have already explained yesterday where I thought he could shove those concerns when it comes to voting for cloture. However there is one thing he said today that he has said several times that nobody has called him out on. Here goes:

CONRAD: Well, I would say this. It is very clear that in the United States Senate, the public option does not have the votes. If we have to get to 60 votes, you cannot get there with public option. That’s why I was asked to come up with an alternative, and the alternative I came up with was this cooperative approach that, as Senator Grassley correctly describes, is not government run or government controlled, it’s controlled by its membership. But it does provide not-for-profit competition to insurance companies, so it has appeal on both sides. It’s the only proposal that has bipartisan support and if we’re going to get 60 votes we’re going to need bipartisan support
.

According to Conrad there is bipartisan support for co-ops but that is simply a lie. So far at best a handful Republicans have said that they would "look into" his proposal for co-ops but many of them have already come out and slammed it as just a public option by another name. The RNC fits into that category and Senator John Kyl the Minority Whip has said that no Republicans would vote for a health care reform bill anyway. So where does Conrad get this notion that he has bipartisan support fo co-ops?

Your guess is as good as mine.

Of course if just one journalist would dare ask him WHO in the Republican Party endorses co-ops we might just get the answer to that question. But our mainstream media does not seem to be in the questioning business anymore.

Boycott "This Week With George Stephanopoulos"

This is beyond the pale.

INTERESTING GUEST LIST.... When I first received an email yesterday telling me that Michelle Malkin would be a guest on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," I thought it was a joke. I assumed it was an example of exaggerating for comedic effect -- as in, "The Sunday morning shows' guest lists tilt to the right so often, one of these days, we'll even see Malkin on."

It turns out,
this wasn't a joke.

Here are the scheduled guests for the Sunday public affairs shows and other weekend programs....

This Week hosts Treas. Sec. Tim Geithner and ex-Fed Chair Alan Greenspan. The roundtable is author/columnist Michelle Malkin, Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Cynthia Tucker, Bloomberg's Al Hunt and Wall Street Journal's Jerry Seib.

This is the Malkin of "The Defeatocrats' Cheer." The Malkin of "In Defense of Internment." The Malkin who went after a 12 year old and his family over their support for expanding S-CHIP. This Michelle Malkin.

When was the last time any of the sunday shows hosted someone far to the left like Markos Moulitsas or Jane Hamsher or even Rachel Maddow who has her own cable news show? No we they are regulated to cable networks or Bill Maher's show on HBO. But someone with a much less respectable reputation like Michelle Malkin is allowed a platform to go on a show like "This Week" not even just to promote her book, but to be provided a seat at the table to discuss the issues of the day. Her far right, out of the mainstream, extemist view point will be legitimized tomorrow by being invited into the discussion.

This must not stand.

If you simply must watch "This Week" I propose that you wait and just watch it online after the fact but we need to not only boycott tomorrow's show but also pass the word on to other family members and friends to boycott. We should also contemplate extending such a boycott until "This Week" features a true liberal or progressive on one of their roundtable discussion.

Now the truth is if you don't have a Neilson box then not watching might not make a difference, but here is what will.

Go and twitter George Stephanopoulos and express your displeasure.

Email the show and let them know you aren't happy.

We should not be silent on this issue. Especially when we constantly hear how "leebrul" our mainstream media supposedly is.

Update: And of course Malkin gets caught telling a bold face lie. That is what liars do after all.

Breaking: Sarah Palin Will Not Seek Reelection And Will Resign Soon

So uhmmmmmmmmmmm does this mean Sarah Palin has been "hiking the Appalachian trail"?!

I would love to see your best guesses as to why she is doing this now in the comments section.

Update: We have video!

Arrrrrrgh, I Give Up!

In my opinion Sarah Palin is the most overhyped politician of our time. Her ineptitude and loose relationship with the truth, however, has been rewarded time and time again since she was named John McCain's nominee for Vice President last summer. It is for that reason that I typically try to avoid giving her too much of my time.

I put up obligatory posts this week on the Vanity Fair hit piece on her and an accompanying GOPolitico story where Steve Schmidt and Bill Kristol aired each other over he VF article.

Now I was going to leave it at that but there was another report from CBSNews about some emails that documented a back and forth between Palin herself and Schmidt. Honestly I couldn't help but at least post the back and forth without the commentary and let it speak for itself.

Enjoy.

First the Peon

"Pls get in front of that ridiculous issue that's cropped up all day today - two reporters, a protestor's sign, and many shout-outs all claiming Todd's involvement in an anti-American political party," Palin wrote. "It's bull, and I don't want to have to keep reacting to it ... Pls have statement given on this so it's put to bed."

Then Schmidt

Schmidt hit "reply to all" less than five minutes after Palin's e-mail was sent. "Ignore it," he wrote. "He was a member of the aip? My understanding is yes. That is part of their platform. Do not engage the protestors. If a reporter asks say it is ridiculous. Todd loves america."

Undeterred Peon

"That's not part of their platform and he was only a 'member' bc independent alaskans too often check that 'Alaska Independent' box on voter registrations thinking it just means non partisan," Palin wrote. "He caught his error when changing our address and checked the right box. I still want it fixed."

Schmidt comes with the haymaker

"Secession," he wrote. "It is their entire reason for existence. A cursory examination of the website shows that the party exists for the purpose of seceding from the union. That is the stated goal on the front page of the web site. Our records indicate that todd was a member for seven years. If this is incorrect then we need to understand the discrepancy. The statement you are suggesting be released would be innaccurate. The innaccuracy would bring greater media attention to this matter and be a distraction. According to your staff there have been no media inquiries into this and you received no questions about it during your interviews. If you are asked about it you should smile and say many alaskans who love their country join the party because it speeks to a tradition of political independence. Todd loves his country

We will not put out a statement and inflame this and create a situation where john has to adress this."

Game Over.

Obviously at that point even Schmidt was done with her. When will the Mainstream Media follow suit?

Blah Blah Blah

I don't think even fans of Sean Hannity believe much of what he says these days. Still there is nothing wrong with passing along evidence of his lies.

On another topic, I wonder how Hannity is going to explain palling around with a terrorist.

Name One

What do you want to bet Joe Scarborough doesn't invite Ed Schultz on his show again any time soon? See thats what happens when you challenge a jack ass to back up their rhetoric. When Ed tells Joe to "name one" just check out the look on his face as he tries to bluff and bluster away from the question of which imaginary Democrats are worried about Nancy Pelosi. I only wish more guests on "Morning Joe" would challenge him the same way.

Truly Despicable

When you have to lie about a murder victim of a hate crime just to try to score political points there aren't any words to describe just how low you have sunk. North Carolina Congresswoman Virginia Foxx isn't worthy to be a member of any elected office. It is my sincere hope that one of her colleagues in Congress moves to censure her and whichever Democrat decides to run against her next year will have my full and I mean FULL support.

Code Words

Frank Gaffney is Dick Cheney's Bitch.

How is that for code words muthafucka?

Not My Fault

So much for the party of personal responsibility. But then again most of us already knew it was bullshit. Especially when it comes to self described "rodeo clowns" like Glenn Beck.

From Media Matters

From the Post-Gazette:
Believing most media were covering up important events, Mr. Poplawski turned to a far-right conspiracy Web site run by Alex Jones, a self-described documentarian with roots going back to the extremist militia movement of the early 1990s.

Who's been mainstreaming the "freak" Alex Jones in recent days? Who's been embracing his conspiratorial rants and giving them a platform and legitimacy? Fox News, course.

Click
here to watch FoxNews.com intro its webcast segment about "what the government has done to take your liberty and property away." And watch the Fox host introduce the "the one, the only, the great Alex Jones." The radio nut then launches into talk of the "New World Order" a "global government." Listen as Jones warns the Fox News audience about the Obama "agenda" for "gun confiscation." And watch the Fox News online host tell Jones it's been "a pleasure" listening to his rhetoric.

Fox News has been playing with radical fire in recent weeks and months. But can it contain the bonfire? Naturally, that doesn't stop Newsbusters from
whining about the consequences and insisting that the GOP Noise Machine has no responsibility for the extraordinary hate it's been pushing since January.

UPDATE: Again, even Little Green Footballs
is appalled:
Wow. Racists, 9/11 truthers, and conspiracy theorists, all brought to you by Fox News.
Featuring “the great Alex Jones.”

What the hell is wrong with Fox News?

UPDATE: During his webcast on FoxNews.com, Alex Jones also notes with pride how FNC's Glenn Beck has recently been warning about the emerging New World Order on the air, just like Jones.

Honestly all of Beck's denials sound like a guilty conscious to me. The question is how many more tragedies will we have to go through before some one MAKES HIM take responsibility?

BTW David Shuster was teh AWESOME SAUCE today subbing for Tweety on Hardball and talking about this very issue. Just as soon as that video is ready I will be posting it.

Cao Strikes Again

I hope Congressman Joseph Cao isn't getting too comfortable in Washington because he definitely won't be there very long.
