As you may have heard by now RNC Chairman Michael Steele gave a speech this morning at the National Press Club to slam President Obama's health care reform push. Now I try not to waste too much time on Michael Steele because the man has shown himself to everyone to be an outright buffoon.

I believe there is bipartisan consensus on this.

But I just had to share a few of his "reform proposals" with you because he is just such a moron. Mind you about 80% of his speech is nothing but sloganeering and soundbites trying to throw President Obama and Congressional leadership under the bus. Honestly he probably should have stuck to that. But instead he tried his hand at showing that the GOP is not just the party of no. That they have their own ideas too. LOL yeah, that's a good one!

So lets take a look see shall we.

Lets' have doctors and hospitals post pricing and outcomes. In this day and age, why aren't the cost of all tests, treatments, procedures and office visits -- as well as effectiveness of treatments posted openly on the internet. That'll bring down costs.

First off let me acknowledge that I do believe this is a good idea for the sake of transparency. But to say that just by posting prices and outcomes online that will in and of itself reduce costs is foolish on its face. First of all it is going to COST MONEY to set up a system whereby you post those prices online. Second of all It is highly likely that such a system would be done in such a way that the average person can't understand it. Does this have potential to HELP bring down costs? Of course it does. If people actually can figure out the information and they start bargain shopping for their health care then it may have an effect. But there is no way in hell to say unequivically that it will help nor could you possibly quantify how much it might help if it did at all.

Then we change the law so you can take your health insurance with you if you have to change jobs, eliminating expensive and unnecessary insurance turnover. That'll bring down costs.

Can someone explain to me how he plans on doing something other than Cobra coverage when you leave a job where your employer pays either all or some of your premium? And again if you set such a system up is it supposed to just magically change and everything work well without creating a new expensive beauracracy to oversee it? Again this is so vague as to be laughable that he puts it forth as an actual policy position.

Let's support new paperless, computer-age health care IT systems to reduce the cost of health care management as well as reduce medical mistakes. That'll really bring down costs.

Hey stupid, we already did that. Remember that stimulus bill you keep slamming? Yeah, it was in there moron.

I truly can't understand why this guy keeps going out publicly and making a fool out of himself like this but as a Democrat I will take it. His rhetoric and his delivery are both so ridiculous that its hard to see how anybody, even his own supporters, take this man seriously. I don't think President Obama is spending much time worrying about Michael Steele speeches I can tell you that much.

Oh and one more thing, I am continuing my boycott of MSNBC until such time as they fire Pat Buchanan, but for the rest of you Steele will be on Hardball with Chris Matthews and I would be willing to bet the farm that Tweety will twist him into some YouTube moments.

In my opinion Sarah Palin is the most overhyped politician of our time. Her ineptitude and loose relationship with the truth,however, has been rewarded time and time again since she was named John McCain's nominee for Vice President last summer. It is for that reason that I typically try to avoid giving her too much of my time.

I put up obligatory posts this week on the Vanity Fair hit piece on her and an accompanying GOPolitico story where Steve Schmidt and Bill Kristol aired each other over he VF article.

Now I was going to leave it at that but there was another report from CBSNews about some emails that documented a back and forth between Palin herself and Schmidt. Honestly I couldn't help but at least post the back and forth without the commentary and let it speak for itself.

First the Peon

Then Schmidt

Schmidt hit "reply to all" less than five minutes after Palin's e-mail was sent. "Ignore it," he wrote. "He was a member of the aip? My understanding is yes. That is part of their platform. Do not engage the protestors. If a reporter asks say it is ridiculous. Todd loves america."

Undeterred Peon

"That's not part of their platform and he was only a 'member' bc independent alaskans too often check that 'Alaska Independent' box on voter registrations thinking it just means non partisan," Palin wrote. "He caught his error when changing our address and checked the right box. I still want it fixed."

Schmidt comes with the haymaker

"Secession," he wrote. "It is their entire reason for existence. A cursory examination of the website shows that the party exists for the purpose of seceding from the union. That is the stated goal on the front page of the web site. Our records indicate that todd was a member for seven years. If this is incorrect then we need to understand the discrepancy. The statement you are suggesting be released would be innaccurate. The innaccuracy would bring greater media attention to this matter and be a distraction. According to your staff there have been no media inquiries into this and you received no questions about it during your interviews. If you are asked about it you should smile and say many alaskans who love their country join the party because it speeks to a tradition of political independence. Todd loves his country

Obviously at that point even Schmidt was done with her. When will the Mainstream Media follow suit?

I don't think even fans of Sean Hannity believe much of what he says these days. Still there is nothing wrong with passing along evidence of his lies.

Michael Steele has caved to his RNC detractors and agreed to give away his authority to handle the purse strings. Obviously I am not an admirer of Michael Steele but damn man, why not just resign instead of letting people punk you every other week? Does he not understand the meaning of the words "man up"? Check this out.

Under nearly constant fire from conservatives since his Jan. 30 election, Mr. Steele last Wednesday accused the resolution's proponents of a power grab "scheme." It looked like an impasse, with a showdown - and a possible no-confidence vote in Mr. Steele - coming at a special meeting called for May 20.

But closed-door negotiations between Mr. Steele and his representatives and Mr. Pullen and the dissident group reached an accord. It represents the first time in memory that rebel members of the Republican Party's national governing body have successfully taken on the party's historically powerful national chairman and his loyalists.

For all that tough "hip hop" talk he engaged in after winning the chairmanship dude has sure gotten his ass handed to him on a regular basis.

Dropping Knowledge

In a post that ends with an ancedote about Joe The Plumber's most recent idiotic comments, Ta Nehisi Coates connects all the dots about how politicians use racism and bigotry to condition their constituents into what he terms lazy thinking. The post brings the AWESOME and you need to check it out, but I am just going to hit you with the part on JTP.

So much of this is so perfect--including the idea that "honkey" is the worst slur Joe can think of. But his attitude toward not letting "queers" around his children, is oddly reminiscent. Much as the racist demagouges of yore convinced themselves that highest aim of black maledom was to bed their fugly-ass daughters, Joe the Plumber is convinced that the highest aim of all queerdom is to spend some time with his snotty-nosed brats.

He's indicative of a demographic that has long been ill-served by its leadership. That works out well for the leadership--at least initially. But over the long-term, the trouble with ignorance is that it trades the "now" for the future. You're betting that those who come after you won't wise up. How's that working out?
