Rachel Maddow Answers Her Own Question

Rachel Maddow had a really great segment on President Obama's rollout of some of the provisions in the Affordable Care Act which are going to effect today, last night. I'll let you watch it first and then make my comment aftewards.

That really was a great segment but here's what I take issue with. Rachel seems perplexed as to why Democrats haven't been running on health care reform till now. Now aside from the fact that its actually perfect timing since some of the provisions come online right before the midterm elections, there is another very obvious answer as to why they haven't and Rachel herself answered her own question in the very next clip.

Saying that health care reform "makes health care suck a little less" and to keep pressing the point is EXACTLY why Democrats haven't been running on the issue along with the fact that many of them are spineless. But when your supposed allies who have microphones and ink don't really have your back about the legislation how are you supposed to run on it to a skeptical crowd??

Don't get me wrong, its not Rachel's "job" to promote the ACA, but at the same time if she is going to continue to make it seem inconsequential or worse then she shouldn't be surprised that Democrats aren't taking "victory laps" etc. Its because the people who could help turn around the national perception of health care reform for the better are still crying about the things we didn't get in the bill instead of constantly pointing out the things we did get in there.

Its really as simple as that.

Dismantled

Rachel Maddow did the Lord's work tonight.  I imagine FoxNews is gonna be in full defensive mode tomorrow.

What More Could Be Done?

I have been just as upset about the oil spill in the gulf as anybody else, especially with BP's lying and obfusication. But here lately people, even those on the left, have started to point the finger at the Obama administration as if the whole thing is their fault. I mean every day now I turn on my TV and there is some pundit intimating that President Obama should don a cape, fly down to Louisianna and use his heat ray vision to stop the spill. Or some such. Yet none of these people who claim the administration should either be doing something more and or something else ever offer up what that more or different approach should be.

Thankfully last night Rachel Maddow asked the question that most of these folks should have address first, is there anything more that COULD be done? Turns out, unfortunately for us all, it seems that there isn't.

Crazy Talk With Ron Rand Paul

There are two things I know after watching this meltdown by Rand Paul on Rachel Maddow's show.

1. Conservatives really do believe the free market will solve any problem.

2. Whoever recommended he go on the show has already been fired.

No, seriously...

You might want to decided if these are the people you want to be associated with.

Lies, Damn Lies, And ACORN

Rachel Maddow deserves an award for her segment last night on how the mainstream media failed to fully investigate the video made by which purported to show ACORN engaged in encouraging and in some cases engaging in illegal activity. What's most messed up about the situation is that the damage has been done. The mainstream media egged on by the wingnut blogosphere pushed the story hard led of course by FauxNooz and when the shit appeared to be hitting the fan Democrats, as is their want, ran for the hills and abandoned ACORN, helping to defund them which effectively led to the dismantling of the organization. In a just world someone would pay for such shitty journalism. But considering how accountability free our mainstream media is now, I wouldn't hold my breath...

Rachel On The Extremist Fringe Of The GOP

These people are gearing up for a war and the mainstream media is still sticking their head in the sand as if they are going away. Thankfully we at least have Rachel Maddow calling them out.

Melting Faces

Rachel Maddow has been on Bart Stupak's ass like a pitbull on a steak and now that she is asking questions that may well lead to trouble with the IRS if not the ethics committee in Congress, you gotta wonder if Stupak is regretting trying to kill health care reform with his one man jihad on a womans reproductive choices.

Whether he has regret or not it doesn't appear that Rachel will be letting up one bit on him any time soon.

Rachel Maddow pretty much ethered the whole Republican caucus in the Senate tonight, it was magnificent to behold!

Meet The Press Blackout

A couple weeks ago Rachel Maddow was on Meet The Press and they had their highest ratings since.......well since the LAST time she had been on which was many months previous. This Sunday Meet The Press is having that bitter bastard John McCain on for the gazillionth time since last year. Its time for us to try an organized and coordinated strategy to try to pull the Sunday shows leftward.

I propose that every liberal and progressive blogger out there pledge to turn away from Meet The Press this Sunday. I know many of us watch it in order to critque it but I am pretty sure that the sun will come up Monday if we sit this one out. But it shouldn't just be that WE turn off Meet The Press, we have to get every one we know to do so also. Family members, friends, church members, alumni, whomever. Just spread the word not to watch this Sunday. (And honestly I don't think you have to tell them why either as long as they commit to doing something else).

If we can get enough people to turn away then we can alert the media to what we are trying to do. We point out after the Nielsen ratings are released how much better Meet The Press did with Rachel on than with McCain and we start to ask the question why we get so much of him, and so little of her and other voices like hers. Regardless of ideological bent, networks LIVE for ratings. So this is the one way that we can make a statement that actually might make a difference.

So what do you say? Any takers?

Must See TV

According to Nielsen ratings The Rachel Maddow show has lost quite a bit of its viewership over the course of President Obama's first year. I can honestly say that I can't imagine why that is. If you thought Rachel's show was interesting and worth watching before the election, it has only gotten better in my estimation since that time. And I say that even acknowledging that I don't always agree with her point of view. Last night she was particularly AWESOME in calling out the hypocrisy of Congressional Republicans which seemingly knows no bounds at this point.

The only question I have at this point is why aren't the rest of the so called news hosts on MSNBC actually paying attention to her reporting on a vast number of issues? I say reporting because that is exactly what it is. There is no denying that Rachel is a progressive through and through, but she brings facts to the table, not just hyperbole. And bigger than that she isn't above making corrections when she makes mistakes. Combine that with her appearances on Meet The Press which have been like a breath of fresh air and its high time the rest of the mainstream media, including her own network, start taking her a helluva lot more seriously!

Congressman Schock Gets Clocked

I have no idea who in the GOP leadership thought it would be a good idea to send freshman House member, Aaron Schock to Meet The Press today with the likes of Rachel Maddow and political animal Harold Ford Jr. Now I didn't agree with HFJ's weaksauce "independent" comments that he kept throwing around like his supposed disagreement about trying KSM in New York, but the guy knows how to throw sharp elbows and I'm not even sure if Shlock even caught it when he called him foolish.

Then you have Rachel, who might be a little too nice at time, calling him a liar in a polite way and putting him on the spot under the bright lights when he came with the same bullshit talking points over the underpants bomber.

I bet his head was swimming by the time he left the set lol.

Pushing The Envelope With False Equivalence

Rachel Maddow was excellent again today on Meet The Press making very well thought out and substantive points. To my surprise Harold Ford Jr wasn't quite as bad as normal. But David Brooks just took the cake at the end of the clip. This dude will make up anything to try to say Democrats are just as bad as Republicans and yet he still gets to come on Sunday talk shows on a fairly regular basis. The mind reels...

Remember Van Jones?

I recall a whole host of Tea Baggers calling for Van Jones' head because he was supposedly a 9-11 truther although the evidence was MIGHTYYYYYYYY weak. And so after enough noise went through the FoxNews megaphone he ended up stepping down. Well now I anxiously await the Tea Baggers denouncing Texas Gubenatorial candidate Debra Medina and calling for her to get out of the race, something that will probably help the more moderate candidate of all of them, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, take down Rick Perry.

I mean fair is fair right? And Tea Baggers want to be consistent...right?

PWAHAHAHAHAHA yeah, they will call for her to step down when hell freezes over, the sheep.

Remember, SHE'S Supposed To Be One Of The Reasonable Republicans

Great job by Rachel Maddow of pointing out all the lies Susan Collins has been telling about the underpants bomber and the investigation. Its just frustrating as hell knowing that she can go on any cable network and tell these lies without even a hint of pushback. And Collins is supposed to be one of the Republicans we expect bipartisanship from?

Give me an effing break...
