Yesterday Democratic Senator for Lousianna Mary Landrieu appeared on MSNBC. She was questioned by Tamron Hall and David Schuster about her lack of support for a public option. To their credit Hall and Schuster pressed her on the issue and asked her about the repeated polling that shows the American people want a public option in health care reform. Her response? She said that people hear public option and think free lunch and the only reason people want it is because they think it means free health care.
Seriously.
Doesn't matter that President Obama himself has given numerous speeches fully explaining a public option. Doesn't matter that its pretty much the number one issue inside the health care debate. Doesn't matter that these polling firms explain the concept of a public option when they ask people whether they support it or not.
Nah none of that matters.
For Mary Landrieu its just a sign that people want free government handouts. Hmmm where have I heard that before?
I am not a fan of purity tests for political parties but dammit if you are more Republican than some Republicans then its time to find a new Democrat for seat.
I'm just sayin.
