The Only Racists FoxNews Sees

I wish I was good at doing video mashups because there is one that is just begging to be made. It would have clip after clip of FoxNews personalities calling Shirley Sherrod a racist, in no uncertain terms, over and over and over again. Then it would switch to Glenn Beck calling President Obama a racist and other's calling Van Jones a racist. But then at the end it would go to clips of those same FoxNews personalities defending the likes of Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives and Republicans who do and say a lot more blatantly racist things. They will frame it as just being satire or they will warn people not to jump to conclusions. It will show footage of the doctor from Florida who sent the picture of Pres Obama photoshopped into a witch doctor with a bone through his nose, being a panelist on Glenn Beck's show.

Id like to see that mashup because people love video evidence nowadays and nothing would be more eye opening than a video that shows how far FoxNews has gone and is willing to go to convince their viewers that the only racists in America any more are black. Its an amazing feat they are trying to pull off that flies in the face of all logic, but for the people who actually watch FoxNews its easy to see that they are at least convincing them. It will serve as just further proof that FoxNews is not even close to a news organization and instead is a propaganda outfit.

Coming Home To Roost

On the heels of the Breitbart character assassination, shouldn't credible news organizations start taking a longer look at FoxNews. Especially when these kinds of incidents keep happening?

The Tides Foundation, which prosecutors in California say was among the targets of the anti-government unemployed carpenter Byron Williams before he got into a chaotic shootout with several law enforcement officers Sunday, is also a favorite topic of Fox News host Glenn Beck.

Beginning in 2009 (and as recently as last week), Beck has repeatedly included the group -- along with ACORN, the SEIU and George Soros -- in his cabal of liberals and liberal organizations that are supposedly agents of President Obama's plan to spread Marxist and socialist ideas throughout the United States.

Of course, that doesn't mean that Beck necessarily inspired or influenced Williams' alleged plan to attack the Tides Foundation. But the group has been something of a whipping boy for Beck over the last year.

Williams was charged yesterday with allegedly opening fire on police officers on Interstate 580 in Oakland, California, while on his way to "start a revolution" by attacking members of the ACLU and the Tides Foundation. Williams was reportedly upset about "the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing agenda items," in the words of his mother. (Which, we have to admit, do sound like words Glenn Beck might say).

I just want to know how many more people have to be threatened or hurt or in some cases killed by folks echoing FoxNews propaganda before the media really starts reporting these stories.

Can't Call It An Ambush

I might be the only blogger on the left not upset in the least about Bret Baier's assholery this evening in his interview with President Obama. My thing is this, its fucking FoxNews, what the fuck exactly did he expect? Its the classic scorpion-toad situation. Bret Baier is no different from Bill O'Reilly or any other right wing asshat on that network so if you are going to go there and allow them to twist you up like a pretzel I say shame on you, not shame on them.

Wonder when President Obama will get around to allowing Rachel Maddow to interview him again.

I won't hold my breath.

Calling Out Journos Who Fail To Call Out FoxNews

Howard Raines calls out his colleagues who keep sticking their heads in the sand about FoxNews and their obvious political agenda.

Why has our profession, through its general silence -- or only spasmodic protest -- helped Fox legitimize a style of journalism that is dishonest in its intellectual process, untrustworthy in its conclusions and biased in its gestalt? The standard answer is economics, as represented by the collapse of print newspapers and of audience share at CBS, NBC and ABC. Some prominent print journalists are now cheering Rupert Murdoch, the head of News Corp. (which owns the Fox network) for his alleged commitment to print, as evidenced by his willingness to lose money on the New York Post and gamble the overall profitability of his company on the survival of the Wall Street Journal. This is like congratulating museums for preserving antique masterpieces while ignoring their predatory methods of collecting.

Why can't American journalists steeped in the traditional values of their profession be loud and candid about the fact that Murdoch does not belong to our team? His importation of the loose rules of British tabloid journalism, including blatant political alliances, started our slide to quasi-news. His British papers famously promoted Margaret Thatcher's political career, with the expectation that she would open the nation's airwaves to Murdoch's cable channels. Ed Koch once told me he could not have been elected mayor of New York without the boosterism of the New York Post.

snip

For the first time since the yellow journalism of a century ago, the United States has a major news organization devoted to the promotion of one political party. And let no one be misled by occasional spurts of criticism of the GOP on Fox. In a bygone era of fact-based commentary typified, left to right, by my late colleagues Scotty Reston and Bill Safire, these deceptions would have been given their proper label: disinformation.

Under the pretense of correcting a Democratic bias in news reporting, Fox has accomplished something that seemed impossible before Ailes imported to the news studio the tricks he learned in Richard Nixon's campaign think tank: He and his video ferrets have intimidated center-right and center-left journalists into suppressing conclusions -- whether on health-care reform or other issues -- they once would have stated as demonstrably proven by their reporting. I try not to believe that this kid-gloves handling amounts to self-censorship, but it's hard to ignore the evidence. News Corp., with 64,000 employees worldwide, receives the tender treatment accorded a future employer.

Jon Stewart Once Again Practicing Journalism

There is at least one person on TV willing to challenge FoxNews' bullshit line about being fair and balanced without any false equivalence. Unfortunately that person happens to be a comedian by trade...

This Is Where I Get Off The Train

Jane Hamsher has been a tireless advocate and activist for health care reform and I appreciate her efforts. But she has jumped into crazy land now and I for one am not going with her. It started last week when she tried to link the people on the left criticizing the Senate health care reform bill with the tea baggers. I don't have a fucking thing in common with those assholes and wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. Now she has gone on Fox And Friends because of course they want to use her to show "even the leftist libruls hate this bill". You know, I am pretty sure that last year she and the rest of the crew over at FDL were pressuring Democratic candidates for President not to go on FoxNews at all. But now, when she has a criticism of the bill its ok for HER to go on that fucked up extremist, and in some respects dangerous network?

Welp, FUCK THAT.

I am still very dissappointed in that bill and I think its going to really bite Democrats in the ass next year in the midterms, but I will be got damn if I align with the other side just to try to kill the bill. When you have to go that far then its time to look in the mirror and reassess just what it is you are fighting for, or against, in my opinion. I doubt if she will actually do that, but I encourage those who have been following her lead up to this point to engage in some soul searching. Is that kind of shit really what you think progressives really should be about?

I don't.

Say Goodbye To Greta

Lou Dobbs, racist extraordinairre has announced his resignation from CNN. I would put the over under at 7 on the number of days before FoxNews annouces his hiring.

Oh and I am taking the under. LOL

FoxNews will now accurately reflect the GOP in the evenings.

A bunch of old, angry lame white men.

Why Conservative "Media" Deserves To Be Ignored

This is the perfect illustration of why FoxNews along with most other conservative "media" outlets should be ignored by real media outlets.

And I just have to say, PEFECT timing too.

FoxNews Needs A WAMBALANCEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

You know that story that has been floating around all day about the White House attempting to exclude FoxNews from an interview with the new Wall Street "pay czar"? And the other networks standing up for FoxNews?

Yeah, not so much...

Which proves they can't even do a news story even if they are personally involved.

Joe Klein Needs To Read This

Now that Joke Line has beclowned himself over the White House vs FoxNews story perhaps he should read this post from Dan Froomkin. Well actually I am pretty sure that as a Villager in good standing Joke Line won't change his stance because the script says all journos should say the White House is stupid for "picking this fight". But at least he will have some material to site once public sentiment turns and the decision to push back on FoxNews is seen as a smart one in hindsight and as usual he does his usual flip flop with the shift in the journalistic winds.

Are there any good journalists left in the mainstream media?

Y'all Musta Forgot

Video archives kill most wingnut "If Bush woulda done this...." freakouts. Nice move by Ms. Maddow once again exposing their hypocrisy.

Ruth Marcus Should Watch This Video

Maybe if Ruth Marcus actually familiarized herself with what FoxNews has been doing for the last 9 months she wouldn't come off looking like such a spectacular hack.

President Obama's White House didn't start this war, they just finally decided to launch a counter attack. Villagers can keep hitting the fainting couch all they want, this is not only appropriate, its also LONG overdue.

Fuck FoxNews

Demand Joe Scarborough Apologize to Anita Dunn

Last week Joe Scarborough played lap dog, sucking up to Rush Limbaugh and bashing other journalists for attributing a fake quote to him without checking it out. He went so far as to say they should be ashamed and apologize. Didn't matter to him that Limbaugh has said numerous OTHER racist remarks over his career. Nope, Limbaugh had been defamed and somebody had to pay!

Well Joe Scarborough just blatantly lied, probably due to his propensity to read wingnut blogs and watch FoxNews, and said White House communications director Anita Dunn said that Chairman Mao and Mother Teresa were her "two favorite philosophers". Here is what she actually said in context.

And then the third lesson and tip actually come from two of my favorite political philosophers, Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa -- not often coupled with each together, but the two people that I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is, you're going to make choices. You're going to challenge. You're going to say, "Why not?" You're going to figure out how to do things that have never been done before. But here's the deal: These are your choices. They are no one else's.

Now even if you were to believe that she was serious in saying that Mother Teresa was a political philospher, the context clearly shows that Dunn did not say they were her two favorite and in fact she used their quotes only because they both made the same point about making choices. But you see Scarborough doesn't have the intellectual integrity that he demanded last week of everyone criticizing Limbaugh.

The right wing blogosphere went after blood last week because of the fake Limbaugh quote, are progressives and liberals prepared to do the same? All it takes is for Scarborough and some of these other asshats to repeat this a few times and then it becomes conventional wisdom. We really shouldn't allow this to happen, especially when it is in direct response to Dunn calling out FoxNews for the ideologically driven faux journalism outlet that it is. We can keep on sitting on our hands and keeping our mouth clothes but if we do and we lose more good people because guys like Joe Scarborough are allowed to smear them with impunity then we deserve exactly what we get.
